GHB addiction
GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) is mainly used by young people at parties or nightclubs. GHB is a popular party drug and is often associated with rape (rape drug).
GHB is a depressant and affects the central nervous system (similarly to alcohol). It is not a stimulant (such as ecstasy or cocaine).
At lower doses, GHB produces a mood lift and has a calming, relaxing effect. It reduces social inhibitions and eliminates anxiety. GHB produces an increased sexual desire and improves sexual performance.
One of the most dangerous aspects of using GHB is its high risk of overdose, leading to effects such as unconsciousness, memory loss, coma and/or serious breathing problems. The latter, in combination with vomiting, may lead to asphyxiation. Your ability to respond and your sense of coordination will be impaired for many hours after using GHB. Withdrawal symptoms include: sleeping problems, feelings of tension, anxiety attacks, muscle pain and depression.
GHB addiction raises alarm bells among treating physicians at RoderSana as the recovery process is extremely difficult and intense. The body protests heavily when the use of GHB is suddenly stopped. This can lead to psychosis, confusion, hallucinations, uncontrolled muscle spasms and coma. These effects occur after only 2 hours in addicted GHB users and require another dose to overcome. The very severe side effects make this addiction extremely difficult to conquer. Treatment of GHB addiction requires close supervision and guidance from experienced physicians and psychiatrists. Due to the danger involved, GHB addicts are often admitted to a hospital intensive care unit. After the client is discharged from the hospital, they will require additional professional treatment by renowned addiction specialists.
Our physicians at RoderSana have specialised in the treatment of GHB addiction. Because of the enormous waiting lists at regular addiction care facilities, with clients often having to wait many months before they can receive treatment, paired with the rejection by many treating physicians (due to the risks involved) and the implementation of treatment methods that involve the use of the drug itself, our physicians decided to specialise in the treatment of GHB addiction. The treatment is based on scientific methods used in the U.S. that have shown very good results.
Many GHB users are young adults. Strict privacy and safety measures are maintained during the treatment of GHB addiction. With permission from the client, the client’s close family, relatives or friends will also be involved in the treatment process, as they are likely to have been through very difficult and anxious times themselves. Our treating physicians will help and guide those closest to you, to provide the best possible conditions for a long-term recovery and to minimise the risk of relapse.
