Treatment at RoderSana
Based on the latest scientific insights, RoderSana has developed an effective treatment method for every type of addiction. Dependence on alcohol or drugs (cannabis, amphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy, GHB, medication, opiates), sex addiction, gaming addiction, internet addiction, gambling addiction, prescription drug addiction and nicotine addiction can now be successfully treated.
Initial meeting
Addiction is a serious and chronic disease of the mind. Successful treatment of this disease requires a long-term, intensive approach. Nevertheless, it is always a difficult and painful step for any individual to admit to themselves or to their family that they are addicted and that they have lost control of their behaviour. At RoderSana, we spend a lot of time with the client during the initial meeting and we provide as many details about the treatment plan as possible while at the same time examining the most suitable treatment options together with the client. The initial meeting with a new client is always free of charge.
Waiting times
There are no waiting times for treatment at RoderSana. We strongly believe in the importance of ensuring that treatment is readily accessible to clients who have made the decision to get rid of their addiction, not only in terms of the treatment itself, but also in terms of the information provided. Any delay could have severe consequences. However, treatment can only commence after the client has been fully informed about the entire course of the treatment.
Ambulatory care
At RoderSana, we use various treatment methods. Based on the intake interview with the treating physician, the client decides which treatment method is most suitable for his or her situation. The treatment method can consist of inpatient hospitalisation at our Oirschot resort, a day treatment programme or ambulatory treatment. Throughout the duration of the treatment cycle, the treatment method may vary, with no waiting times.
Ambulatory treatment always takes place in one of the polyclinics of RoderSana. We operate several polyclinics throughout the Netherlands. To safeguard the privacy and safety of our clients, each polyclinic is housed in a generic building that cannot be linked to RoderSana or to a treatment facility in any way.
Ambulatory treatment is best suited for clients who wish to receive treatment for their addiction without disrupting their home, family, or work life. The initial meeting takes place first, free of charge and without obligation. During this meeting, the treating physician will determine – in consultation with the client – whether RoderSana will be able to offer the best possible treatment solution for the specific situation of the client (and of the people closest to him or her). This assessment is carried out as objectively as possible. On rare occasions, clients may be advised to register for treatment in a specialist facility other than RoderSana.
Ambulatory treatment commences with an intake interview. Based on the intake interview, we develop a personal treatment plan in consultation with the client. Each polyclinic works with a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, family/systemic therapists, occupational therapists (music, art, drama) and other allied health professionals and psychiatrists. We also rely on a number of expert professionals who participate in the treatment programme upon request. If the client experiences psychiatric symptoms in relation to his or her addiction, such as anxiety, depression or ADHD, then these symptoms will be equally addressed throughout the course of the treatment.
At the beginning of the treatment programme, regular, intensive discussions will be held with the client. However, our clients are also guided through sports activities and are encouraged to learn to develop leisure activities. As the addiction is more and more under control, the frequency and intensity of the sessions will be reduced. Ambulatory treatment comprises a fully personalised, custom treatment plan that is adjusted on an ongoing basis in line with the progress made by the client.
We also focus on the partner and/or children and other family members of the client, as they are often directly affected by the addition and may be left with many questions. Upon consent from the client, family members are invited to participate in the ambulatory treatment programme as the need arises. In addition to individual meetings, we also offer the opportunity for them to attend group and/or family evening sessions. These sessions deal with topics such as self-help, relapse, etc.
RoderSana believes that addiction is often the result of stress and that it requires a lot of time to gain long-term control. The entire process involves quite a lot of setbacks and fresh starts. That is why all our treating physicians are available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. In the event of a client's relapse, the treatment can be recommenced at once, which will greatly reduce the risk of serious consequences.
International scientific research has demonstrated that it takes two years of treatment before one can truly say that they have gained long-term control over their addiction. We specifically avoid using the term ‘healing’ from an addiction, as an addiction is usually classified as a chronic brain disease. Of course, the recovery process may take more or less time than the average two years.
Check our map of the Netherlands on our website to find a polyclinic near you. To protect the privacy and safety of our clients, we do not publish addresses on our website. If you wish to admit yourself to one of our programmes or talk to someone about our ambulatory treatment programmes, please contact us via telephone on +31(0)499 - 58 4444.
Day treatment / part-time treatment
In consultation with the client, the physician/psychiatrist may decide to start a day treatment or part-time treatment programme. In that case, treatment will take place on specific days or at specific times of the day.
Most day treatment or part-time treatment programmes currently take place in Oirschot. However, RoderSana will be opening a number of day treatment clinics for day treatment or part-time treatment throughout 2011 at several different locations in the Netherlands.
Clinical admission to the RoderSana Resort
When clients contact us for the first time, they can get in touch with one of our psychologists, psychiatrists or physicians straight away, if desired. A meeting with a treating physician can be arranged within 24 hours and the client can be admitted immediately for a clinical stay at the RoderSana Resort. Of course, these decisions are made in close consultation with our clients and with their closest family members.
Sports, nutrition and meditation
People who display addiction behaviour are often neglecting their own body. Physical recovery and regaining a good physique are focal points in RoderSana’s treatment programmes. Under the supervision of a physiotherapist, a personalised training schedule will be drawn up in line with the personal needs and boundaries of the client. Swimming, mountain biking, running, nordic walking, fitness, tennis and numerous other activities will help clients renew their respect for their own body. Daily meditation exercises under the supervision of a well-known meditation instructor will teach the client how to relax and, in particular, how to cope with tension and stress. Years of eating high-calorie food with little variety often result in an undernourished body with serious vitamin and mineral deficiencies. If there are signs of deficiencies, our nutrition expert will examine the eating habits of the client and will develop - together with the client - a personalised diet that includes food supplements.
Cooking workshops are organised each week by our top chefs at the RoderSana Resort to help increase awareness among our clients about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Healthy cooking is a true culinary experience and contributes to a quick and long-lasting recovery. It is also tasty and fun to do!
Family
A great deal of our focus lies with the family and close relatives of
the client. Living with someone who is struggling with an addiction
is not easy. Family members and partners have often been suffering
for years. This may lead to psychological problems that will not
simply disappear. For some, the time prior to the admission of the
client can be rather traumatic. When your partner, father or mother,
brother, sister or child is addicted to alcohol or drugs, you will
feel intense emotions, such as sadness, anger, distrust or even
guilt. Therefore, RoderSana extends its helping hand to family
members and close relatives. They too deserve intensive psychological
support in these difficult times and should be actively involved in
the treatment programme through systemic therapy. A family member can
be the ideal partner to support the client with his or her battle
against the disease.
Together with close family members and
relatives, we will find the best way for them to support the client
throughout the various stages of the recovery process. They are also
informed on how to recognise symptoms of relapse to ensure that quick
and efficient intervention can take place. We provide ongoing support
and assistance to the client and to his or her close family members
even after the client has been discharged. To achieve a successful
treatment experience for the client, the life and living habits of
the client and his or her closest family may have to undergo drastic
changes. We will discuss this process together with the client and
his or her family.
Family days
Throughout their clinical admission, our clients are given the opportunity to invite family members who play an important part in their lives, to the organised family day. On this day, family members are given a tour of the facility and they have the opportunity to meet the team of treating physicians. They can also exchange detailed information and get answers to their questions about the problem of addiction. Under the supervision of expert professionals from the National Foundation for Parents and Relatives of Drug Users (LSOVD), personal stories can be shared with others who are going through similar experiences, and people can learn how others cope with addiction in their family. Family members and close relatives are welcome to join discussion meetings held by the National Foundation for Parents and Relatives of Drug Users throughout the Netherlands on other dates as well.

Aftercare
The treatment of any addiction must be sustained for as long as possible. A swift response by the client and by the treating physician to a relapse of the client is of utmost importance. After the 7-week stay at the resort, the client will take part in an intensive ambulatory guidance programme for two years. From a scientific point of view, this method has proven to be the most effective. Together with the treating physician, the client will learn how to recognise risk situations in day-to-day life and how to apply the necessary techniques to avoid a relapse. At the same time, the client may receive guidance from a personal coach to regain good physical health or to acquire meditation techniques. RoderSana’s ambulatory team includes a large group of professionals from several treatment disciplines, who are active throughout the Netherlands and have gained many years of experience in this field. Our basic principle is that we prefer to offer treatment options as close as possible to the home or work environment of the client. We also use new, secure communication technologies, such as videophones, that offer a simple and low-threshold option to continue the treatment at the same frequency rate and intensity level.
Self-help groups
Throughout the entire treatment process at RoderSana, you will receive more information about self-help groups. Each group consists of individuals sharing the same problem. The group may consist of participants who receive treatment at RoderSana and/or participants who receive treatment elsewhere. All information sessions about self-help groups are organised by expert professionals and explain more about what should and should not be expected, as well as the various options offered and supported in the client’s search for the most suitable self-help group. Participation in self-help group sessions can be an important tool for long-term control over one’s addiction. Also see RoderSana Client Community.
Atelier Binnenste Buiten is an initiative by former RoderSana clients. These individuals hold an obligation-free meeting every week with the purpose of being creative in the field of art and communication and to support each other with the new paths chosen. Also see Atelier Binnenste Buiten.
24/7 availability
Treating physicians are available for their clients 24 hours a day. Clients and/or close family or relatives of clients always have the opportunity to talk to a treating physician. We are fully aware that a relapse or the need to talk does not always arise during business hours, but also – and in particular – beyond those hours and on weekends. In the event of a relapse or other issues, our direct and swift approach allows us to immediately recommence treatment, which will greatly reduce the risk of serious consequences. Of course, we strive to avoid a relapse at all times. We would like to emphasise that the treating physician is available for the client but also for his or her family members or close friends and relatives.
